A new report says there are again multiple staffing changes in key roles at Apple as the company promotes from within to cover retiring executives. More changes at Apple Park This isn't another case of half a dozen people leaving Apple in the lurch , chiefly because it's actually a managed changeover ahead of people retiring. According to Bloomberg , the main people concerned are Wei Chen and John Zhong, both of whom worked on Apple's display technology. Chen took over Touch ID back in 2023 when its previous head retired. Now both Chen and Zhong are reportedly stepping back from their leadership roles and instead becoming advisors. It's intended to be a transition for them after more than thirty years working for Apple, and of course to pass on those decades of experience to others. Apple plans to unveil 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with touch-enabled OLED displays on Wednesday, October 28, according to Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman. Those invited to Apple's "Pro and tell" experience in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on that day will likely receive hands-on time with the laptops after they are announced in a press release. In his Power On newsletter today , Gurman reiterated that these MacBook Pro models will look similar to the current models, but weigh less and feature a Dynamic Island instead of a notch at the top of the screen. He previously reported that the laptops will be powered by Apple's existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips released back in March. With a costlier OLED display, the new MacBook Pro models are expected to be more expensive. In the U.S., pricing for the existing models with mini-LED displays and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips starts at $2,499 for the 14-inch model and at $2,999 for the 16-inch model, and starting prices for the new models could be up to $500 higher. macOS Golden Gate is said to feature a "dynamic interface" for touch input. "The system will take previous interactions into account, presenting controls based on whether someone has been touching the display or using the trackpad," explained Gurman. "Touching a button can also bring up a menu around the user's finger, while the Dock and Menu Bar have been optimized for touch." Apple will position touch as an additional input method that customers can use when it makes sense, alongside the keyboard and trackpad, he said. The existing MacBook Pro models with mini-LED displays will remain part of Apple's lineup for now, but they will eventually be discontinued, he added.
