Among the flurry of iOS 27.2 releases on Monday , Apple also pushed a wave of software updates for its older operating systems, including a fix for a CoreGraphics vulnerability that Apple says may have been exploited in targeted attacks. The releases include iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 18.7.11, iPadOS 18.7.11, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, and tvOS 26.6.1. iOS 18.7.11 and iPadOS 18.7.11 bring the CoreGraphics fix to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and seventh-generation iPad, all of which cannot run iOS 26. According to Apple, processing a maliciously crafted file on these devices could lead to arbitrary code execution, and the company is "aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 27." For iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, Apple lists security fixes covering 134 vulnerabilities , none of which are flagged as having been exploited in the wild. Apple likewise lists security fixes for macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 . Lastly, tvOS 26.6.1 : the only release of these updates with a user-facing change. The update adds support for the fourth-generation Siri Remote on the Apple TV HD and first-generation Apple TV 4K. All of the updates are available now. An Apple supplier insists that its components aren't the cause of hinge failures that break the screen of the iPhone Duo , as the social media fallout over the fault rolls on. A sheared-off part of an iPhone Duo hinge mechanism - Image Credit: CuriousHagi/YouTube Following the release of the iPhone Duo, there have been reports of screen breakages , with quite a few highlighting a very common point of failure for the hinge . In an attempt to get ahead of the story, part of Apple's supply chain claims that its components are not the problem. A statement from Fine M-Tec released on October 26 denies that its components cause the screen damage, reports The Elec . It also urges everyone to avoid a witch hunt for someone to blame until the real cause has been uncovered. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums
Apple yesterday officially launched what it describes as “ the biggest update ever ” to the iPad mini , featuring an OLED screen and a thinner, lighter design. However, while there are a significant number of upgrades, internet commentators were very focused on the one thing Apple didn’t upgrade: that 60Hz display … more…
Apple's upcoming iPhone 18e model will retain a 60Hz display but could gain an upgraded front-facing camera, according to the leaker known as "Digital Chat Station." In a new post on Weibo, the leaker said that the device will feature a 6.12-inch OLED display using low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology, the A20 chip, and a single 48-megapixel rear camera. They were less definitive about the front-facing camera, saying it could be upgraded to 24 megapixels. The specifications suggest that the iPhone 18e will offer no major display or rear camera hardware upgrades over the previous two generations. Both the iPhone 16e and iPhone 17e feature approximately 6.1-inch ‌OLED‌ displays with a 60Hz refresh rate and a single 48-megapixel rear camera. The post does not detail the rear camera's sensor or lens, so smaller hardware changes remain possible. The A20 chip would represent a more significant upgrade. Like the A20 Pro chip in the iPhone 18 Pro , the A20 is expected to use a 2nm manufacturing process , bringing notable performance and power efficiency improvements over the iPhone 17e 's 3nm A19 chip. It would also bring the device into line with the upcoming standard iPhone 18 , which is expected to use the same chip . The front-facing camera claim is less clear. Digital Chat Station specified 24 megapixels, although it is unclear whether this refers to a new camera or is a mistaken reference to the 18-megapixel Center Stage camera introduced with the iPhone 17 lineup. A 24-megapixel camera was widely rumored before those devices launched. Either resolution would represent an upgrade over the 12-megapixel front camera used by the iPhone 16e and ‌iPhone 17e‌. Digital Chat Station previously claimed that the iPhone 18e would retain a 60Hz LTPS display. An earlier report from Korea suggested that an LTPO display capable of supporting 120Hz ProMotion could reach the entry-level iPhone with the "iPhone 19e" in 2028. The iPhone 18e is expected to launch in spring 2027 , alongside the standard ‌iPhone 18‌ and iPhone Air 2.
