Apple's top-tier Mac, the Mac Studio , has been given a big AI bump with the M5 Ultra. Here's how it compares against the M3 Ultra model it replaces. The Mac Studio now has M5 Ultra, an upgrade from the M3 Ultra. The new Mac Studio arrived on Tuesday , with the all-new M5 Ultra now the top-of-the-range chip for tough productivity workloads. Apple is positioning it squarely as a desktop for doing a lot of AI-related processing, including running models locally. The design stays faithful to the outgoing model, so the story lives inside the chip. This time, the headline is artificial intelligence rather than raw core counts. Adding AppleCare to Mac Studio & Mac mini is later in the purchase process than before

Despite the New Mac mini and Mac Studio apparently not including an option to add AppleCare where it has historically been during the order process, you just have to click through a few pages to get it done. AppleCare options are available for the new Macs. It's not remotely clear why Apple would choose to hide AppleCare for the new Macs since the option is front and center with other Macs. With those, AppleCare is on the order page, right after processor, RAM, and storage options. With the new Mac mini and Mac Studio , there is no such option on that page, but there is later in the process. Why the new Mac Studio can support up to eight screens

You have to really need it in order to justify the cost of an M5 Ultra Mac Studio , but there are reasons why you could use up all eight display options, and they may not be obvious. Mac Studio comes with many ports, yet it's still easy to fill them all. Sometimes you wonder if Apple adds something just because it can. So the new M5 Max version of the Mac Studio, for instance, is being promoted as being able to run up to five displays, while the M5 Ultra Mac Studio can handle eight. There's more to it than that, there are specific limits on the types of displays, but it's true that there are five or eight available.
