Prolific leaker Instant Digital has made a vague posting about how Apple considered a 16GB A20 Pro chip for iPhone 18 Pro. The timetable of the consideration isn't clear, given that it takes between two and three years to move an Apple Silicon chip from concept to production. It would have been nice. Two years ago there wasn't even a burgeoning RAM crisis, but that has escalated in the last year, so it's good for Apple's bottom line to have only 12GB, versus that maybe-planned 16GB. Other than this lone guess, the rumor mill has said for two years that the A20 chip would have 12GB of RAM. Instant Digital Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums
Apple initially planned to equip the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and iPhone Duo with 16GB of RAM, according to the leaker known as " Instant Digital ." The brief Weibo post does not say when Apple considered that capacity. The ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max feature 12GB of RAM, as confirmed through Xcode 27 , matching the iPhone 17 Pro models. The ‌iPhone Duo‌ is also expected to have 12GB, but the Xcode data used to verify the Pro models did not yet include the foldable. Rumors had pointed to 12GB for the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ well before launch. In April 2025, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the iPhone 18 lineup would have 12GB of RAM. Analyst Jeff Pu projected the same capacity for the Pro models and Apple's first foldable iPhone in January. A March report from The Bell said Samsung would supply 12GB memory modules for the ‌iPhone Duo‌. The global memory shortage is the likely explanation for the apparent change. The March report described sharply rising prices for the 12GB modules, while Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman reported that memory costs led Apple to discuss a higher starting price for the foldable. Kuo also said DRAM shortages were forcing Apple to scale back its 2026 hardware shipment plans. ‌iPhone Duo‌ pre-orders begin October 16 , ahead of availability on October 23. Microsoft is set to drop OneDrive support for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which will remove the cloud storage app's compatibility with several older iPhones and one iPad model. The loss of support for iOS 18 will impact the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, because these devices can't be updated to iOS 26. Likewise, the seventh-generation iPad will be left behind when Microsoft raises the app's minimum requirement to iPadOS 26. OneDrive 18.12.1 is the final version to support iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, based on release notes for Microsoft's latest TestFlight beta. It's not clear when the change will translate to the public version of OneDrive. That said, Microsoft recently added a notice to its App Store listing saying that support for iOS and iPadOS 18 will be dropped "soon," and recommending that users update to iOS 26 or iOS 27 to continue receiving the latest versions. Existing versions of OneDrive aren't expected to immediately stop working on affected devices, but they won't receive new features, fixes, or other app updates once Microsoft makes the change.
